EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION
Applications are accepted for the SMTD and Access Springfield operations Monday through Saturday at 928 S. Ninth Street. Applications MUST be completed on site. WE DO NOT ACCEPT APPLICATIONS VIA E-MAIL OR THROUGH OUR CUSTOMER SERVICE COMMENTS PAGE. On weekdays, applications must be completed at the administrative office (main door) from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Saturdays, applications may be obtained from the pass sales window from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Positions being filled will be posted on this website and may also be advertised in the newspaper.
Qualifications for Drivers
SMTD Driver
Applicants for SMTD Driver positions must have a high school diploma or GED, be at least 25 years of age, have a clean driving record, must be able to pass a DOT physical, drug and alcohol test, lumbar x-ray, criminal background check, and must be able to operate any vehicle in the fixed-route fleet. Drivers must be able to assist disabled passengers in wheelchairs to board and disembark from the vehicles and must be able to secure the wheelchairs in the vehicles.
A CDL is not required to be hired, but trainees must be able to obtain a training permit before training can begin and must be able to obtain the full CDL with air brake and passenger endorsements to continue employment. The SMTD assists with preparation for the driving test prior to completion of training.
Drivers must have a pleasant disposition and be able to deal with passengers in a courteous manner.
Access Springfield Driver
Applicants for Access Springfield should have a high school diploma or GED and should be at least 21 years of age. A CDL is not required to drive Access Springfield buses. Applicants must have a clean driving record and be able to pass a DOT physical, drug and alcohol screen, lumbar x-ray and criminal background check. Access Springfield drivers must be able to operate all types of Access vehicles and must be able to assist passengers to board and disembark from the vehicle and secure the wheelchair on each vehicle.
Drivers must have a pleasant disposition and be able to deal with passengers in a courteous manner.
